Audio Skill Master Post!

2016-04-15 07:26:21 by Troisnyx
Updated

I am writing this post as a compendium of every NG musician who has particular talents in a kind of instrument, or anything in particular. I do this with the intention of us helping each other out, and so that newer users who want to collaborate with us seasoned ones can do so by finding users through this post.

As a general rule, for those of you who intend to PM these users directly, it would be courteous to tell people if it is a paid job or something that you are doing without any payment. It would also be great to credit, compensate (if paid) and offer the possibility of future collaboration. I hope this will serve as a way of reaching out to some really good talents out there who need that little bit of help to make their ideas come to life.

If you are a vocalist, have an instrument you can play and record, or have some other particular skill that would prove handy, feel free to comment on this post and I will gladly add you to the list.

@Lich here. I'm available for 'Power Fry' Vocals.

Troisnyx responds:

Noted. Also noted that death whistle of yours. <3

Haha, thanks for putting the Death Whistle down aswell! I'm actually using it for a Commander Terrorsekt song project which we should have uploaded at some point.

Another service I offer from time-to-time is 'Artifact Healing', which is where I can dive down into WAV recordings people send to me and manually 'heal' (remove) isolated artifacts such as unwanted pops, clicks and minor clipping. Just another thing to add me into if it's alright ;)

Troisnyx responds:

Thank you. I must add an extra section into this thing about mixing and mastering help.

I'd like to forcibly include @raggd46 to the list of vocalists. He's got a fine voice.

Troisnyx responds:

Thank you.

And speaking about your singing, have you got any other language capabilities? 'Twill be nice to list, I thought.

At your service! Thank you for listing me. :)

I'm a vocalist as well, but I'm happy with not having that on the list since I'm rather careful about what I sing. In other news, I also play mandolin and octave mandolin (you might know this as a short scale Irish bouzouki).

Troisnyx responds:

Noted. Thank you!

Troisnyx responds:

I'll sign in as a violinist and as a person capable of mixing and mastering projects into life.

Troisnyx responds:

Lovely to have you on board!

I certainly don't feel it, but thank you so much. <3

@jaysummers759885 is an excellent guitarist as well.

Troisnyx responds:

Both acoustic and electric, I take it? I put his name down in the electric section so far.

@basset-hound is a multi-instrumentalist, though he's not as active as before.
@jabun is an audio engineer
@deadlyfishes is also a multi instrumentalist (i think?)
@soundchris is a violinist
@sourjovis guitarist
@DreamsOfBurningSkies vocalist

(Updated ) Troisnyx responds:

Thank you so much! <3 The amount of people you've put names towards is astounding.

EDIT: Any idea of the full list of instruments Basset-Hound plays?

Agitat0rAgitat0r

2016-04-15 16:34:09

how could i forget about @ceevro! he's a guitarist and vocalist.
and @Phonometrologist, pianist.
@mattashi guitarist
@Ultramartyr (Laforge) guitarist
@Braiton guitarist
@DSykMusic violinist
@NyxTheShield guitarist
@Grandvision pianist
@etelik keyboardist/pianist (based on his profile pic)

Troisnyx responds:

Please tell me whether acoustic, electric or both when it comes to guitar -- it'll be much appreciated. Thanks for all the hard work. <3

based on this video Basset-Hound played drum, fiddle, flute, french horn, piano, and guitar

https://youtu.be/NeRkDLe6SfI

from this news post of his

Troisnyx responds:

I remember that video, but I couldn't remember the full list. Thank you!

Well i think i have to correct something: I also played violin in the past and a few other instruments like recorders etc. I also had years of classical singing training. But i am mainly a pianist - thats what i would call my core competence :D

Troisnyx responds:

Ooooo. Do you mind me listing the whole lot down, or do you want to focus on your main instrument? (Thanks for clearing this up by the way. <3)

Agitat0rAgitat0r

2016-04-15 16:46:41

sorry.

NyxTheShield, Basset-Hound and ceevro are acoustic
Ultramartyr, Braiton and mattashi are electric

Troisnyx responds:

Thank you, meep!

SoundChrisSoundChris

Lets just take the piano - the other stuff doesnt really matter IMO :3

Troisnyx responds:

Alright then! 'Tis done. :D

SoundChrisSoundChris

2016-04-15 16:59:35

I think that @AliceMako and @etelik do have a good knowledge in mastering and mixing and in audio engineering in general. Vocals: @Hania . Guitar: @JacobCadmus , @Kor-Rune

Troisnyx responds:

I know Kor-Rune does electric, but Jake? Does he do both, or acoustic / electric?

Thanks for the name mentions by the way; I'll put them in right away.

SoundChrisSoundChris

2016-04-15 17:02:08

Hm i at least think he also does electric. Not totally sure - but almost totally :)

Troisnyx responds:

I do have him on Skype; I'll double-check with him before I put it up. I'll be sure to do it in the morning though; I do know that he comes on around the time I attempt to get out of bed... ^_^'

I've been singing vocals for years, and while it's not a particularly musical avenue I've also done plenty of voice acting and narration jobs.

Incidentally, while headphoamz is a truly talented vocalist and pianist, Elspeth hasn't even been on Newgrounds in over a year. She's been really busy with various and sundry VA responsibilities and only posts to her YouTube channel about once a month or so. Just FYI. :)

Troisnyx responds:

Noted. headphoamz has been removed from the list for the time being. Have you got extra language capability that I need to note onto the list? It'd be nice for anyone searching.

Thanks for adding me to the list. Yes, electric guitar, one of my favorites actually ;)
Ukulele too.
You may add me to the bass guitar too mentioning that I can record a fretless or a normal one. Soon to add a bass ukulele.

Troisnyx responds:

I was about to say, don't you also sing? In a few languages too?

SourJovisSourJovis

2016-04-15 22:04:47

Actually I only play piano. Not guitar. Sorry...

Troisnyx responds:

Whoops. Correcting that right away!

ChronoNomadChronoNomad

2016-04-16 13:21:54

Excellent question! Besides English I can also speak (or sing) French, German, Japanese, and Spanish. My Mandarin is also passable, though - as is also the case with Japanese - there would need to be an English alphabet version to read from. Sadly, my knowledge of Asian characters is rather limited.

Troisnyx responds:

No problem. Should I put in Mandarin and Japanese as well?

ChronoNomadChronoNomad

2016-04-16 13:28:58

I knew I would ultimately forget something! You can add Latin to that list, as well. My absolute favourite of the so-called dead languages. :D

Troisnyx responds:

Ecclesiastical or classical pronunciation, out of curiosity? (That will likely not be mentioned in the list but I'm just curious, you know. XD)

ChronoNomadChronoNomad

2016-04-16 13:30:26

Definitely Japanese, but hmm...might as well leave Mandarin off. I can't remember ever having a real need for it in a professional sense.

Troisnyx responds:

Heh, I get what you mean. ; ) So should I put in a note for romaji, or would characters do?

ChronoNomadChronoNomad

2016-04-16 13:33:25

Whew, you're quick on the draw! Typically in a more classical sense, though Ecclesiastical isn't a problem.

ChronoNomadChronoNomad

2016-04-16 13:34:11

...And definitely romaji! Haha, thanks.

Troisnyx responds:

Anytime! Oh boy.
Oh, side note. On the audio forum, there's something I'd like you to come see. I'm attempting a tutorial series but I can't seem to get it right.

BiggyzoomBiggyzoom

2016-04-16 13:35:21

Awesome plan. Could you put me down for Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar please?

Sure thing! The FL Tutorial for Beginners? I'd be happy to take a look. ^__^

Heeeeeeeeey! Thanks ;) You could also add me for WInds (Soprano and Altor ecorders, alongside flute and a SOuth AMerican instrument called the Quena)

Troisnyx responds:

I'll do it asap. Thank you. : )

2016-04-16 14:10:22

This is a great idea! Honoured to be included :)
I'd be happy to be put down for piano (I'm a cool chords guy if thats what you need), and I mix all my own vocals so would be keen to enter into other areas of mixing

Troisnyx responds:

Alright. I'll put you in for piano for the time being!

ZipZipperZipZipper

2016-04-16 16:52:25

Languages...I'm most comfortable with German, Latin, Italian, Japanese, and I suppose Spanish. I guess you can count constructed languages too?

Troisnyx responds:

Alright, you bet. I'll put them in!

GrandvisionGrandvision

2016-04-16 17:47:18

Oh god thanks for adding me on the list but sadly I am no pianist. I have no theoretical or practical knowledge of playijng an actual piano, I always composed my piano improvs by hand in FL Studio using notes in the keyboard window. But I am honored to be mentioned here, I want to practice actual piano lessons soon, probably start on proper fingering techniques as I feel those are the most vital part of starting out, without proper finger technique, you could go wrong many ways down the line in how you play and perform live and in recording situations.

ZipZipperZipZipper

2016-04-16 23:03:19

@Grandvision While it's true that proper fingering is vital, I don't believe it's the most vital. My hands were already infused with improper fingering before I started formal lessons and of course I was constantly picked on by my teacher for having the "fingering of a five-year old" (that's an actual comment I received) However, he still urged me to have my own full-length recital and I ended up pulling it off, considering the amount of pieces and the difficulty of each one. So, what I'm trying to say is you can still get by if you don't have the best fingering. I mean...if you have perfect fingers but uninspired musicality...

Music itself will always trump its own techniques. But yeah, everyone needs some attention to technique as well. The End.

You asked for a list so here it is:

- Drums/percussion
- Piano/keys/melodica
- Guitar (Acous. Elec. Bass.)
- Contrabass
- Trumpet
- Saxophone (tenor, alto, soprano)
- French Horn
- Harmonica
- Mandolin
- Flute, Tin Flute, Shakuhachi
- Clarinet (b-flat)
- Vocals
- Violin/Cello (not very good though)

I still check newgrounds everyday I just don't post alot anymore.

Thanks for listing me! I'm always looking for a decent collab! I also play electric, mandolin, uke, "household percussion," and banjo (shhhhh...I only do this for really important things. Banjo is to musicians what nude-scenes are to actors).

<3 This is a great post Trois

You can add me for vocals (All State Tenor One, sang in various languages including Italian, Swahili, Latin and French) and also general realistic drum programming if you'd like.

(Updated ) Troisnyx responds:

I'll add that all to the list. Programming might be a bit harder because I'm not sure how to add that section yet -- if anyone has a special side that they're most familiar with. Thank you regardless!

You got a full list of languages?
