There's always a trade-off between desktops and mobile computers, but that notebook seems to be a good fit.
Have you tried using Firefox, or its 64-bit variant, Waterfox? I've been using Firefox up till earlier this year, before I transitioned over to Waterfox. There's been a few minor problems here and there, but nothing too seriously bad.
I have long been intending to use Waterfox... since I have a 64-bit system, I guess I should give it a try.
It works very well- you can add plug-ins for whatever you want. Its gonna be a lot more secure than IE, and it'll be even more secure if you add in some of the security plug-ins.

Apart from the rotten news regarding your PC, I think that the news regarding your talented drumming opponent and your will to compose again is refreshing.
