Troisnyx's News

Oh my. 500. Gosh, never thought I'd get there. Thanks, everyone. Just.... thank you so much.

So what's been going on?

There's a game for which I am writing music now called Ley Lines, and when I was shown an alpha video of it, I really liked what I saw. So far, composing music for this thing has been an enjoyable process. As more material about it gets revealed, I'll gladly reveal more about the composition process.

Here is the alpha. As for concept art and development, I've found a blog that can be read here.

Also, a lot of Project Chaplaincy files that were lost back in 2014, which were found by Seán in March this year, are being restored. I'm already at the sixth file on that recently restored hard drive. So as a result, you'd see a lot of material being churned out by me.

Thirdly, Seán and I celebrate our engagement anniversary in two days. I am grateful to have him as a significant part of my life, and I long for the day when we finally get married.

EDIT: In light of 500+ followers, once my body recovers from its physical pains, I'll record that dance I was alluding to in a few earlier posts. That timbrel and those bells really need using.

finally found the account name of the person whose music I saw without signing in back in 2009, which effectively was my first time stepping into Newgrounds. That user's name is @ForbiddenMemory.

@CaptKirky did quite a bit of prompting to me when we spoke with each other over my earliest memories of NG, and somehow, I went to Wikia, which is where ForbiddenMemory and I met under different usernames. I knew that he had music of his own, and so I looked up his links. His Newgrounds page was listed, and I saw The Icy Lands, the very first music track I listened to on here. See, seven years ago the two of us were part of a Kingdom Hearts fanon project, and we imagined up our own characters and our own background music based on what we'd learnt from the few games released then -- KH1, Chain of Memories and KH2. Shortly after listening to his work, he pointed me to @TheWeebl, which then pointed me to Weebl's Stuff.

It took me 7 years, but now I finally remember. Time to update all those statements, forum posts and interviews where I completely forgot who it was that brought me to NG first.

I have a tambourine that doubles as a frame drum, bells and semi-tribal clothes. I yearn to put them to good use.

What's stopping me is that I'm really self-conscious about anything I do; I fear that I'm a horrible dancer, or otherwise not appealing in some way, shape or form. But I cannot help but think that this is something that is good for me to share. I have a deep passion for drums and dancing, and I want to use it healthily. Performing publicly is something I've always yearned to do, even if I'd been shamed for it in the past. Even if I am dancing alone, I don't want to be afraid of people seeing me......

Should I dance?

It's getting to that time of year again when people are asking, "when are the audio contests going to be held?". With the mention of audio contests comes the mention of the Newgrounds Audio Deathmatch, the Newgrounds Audio Underdogs contest, the Art-Inspired Music contest, the Newgrounds Music Triathlon... the list could go on, but I don't know what else is in store for us musicians this year.

The whole point of me writing this post, however, is not to state any chance of me taking part in any of these contests. (In fact, it's likely that I won't.) Rather, I want to encourage you folks to NEVER bring yourselves down. I suppose it's easy to help others with this, and not myself -- but a lot of us feel the same way. So let's encourage each other, instead of saying "no, there's no way in hell you or I could make this" for example.

Back in 2012 I took part in my first Audio Deathmatch, and my run there was one that surprised everyone present.

SERIOUSLY, HOW DO YOU WIN THIRD PLACE WITH THIS LOAD OF JUNK?

It's badly mixed, the mic quality is horrible, and at the best of times we'd probably get listener's fatigue. So what gives?

But that's my point -- you may not shine in one area, but you'll shine in another when it comes to music production. Never take yourself for granted, and don't let others do the same to you. Those closest to me keep reminding me of this, so it's only right that I should do the same. I didn't shine in mixing, but it seems the musicality of these pieces made up for it all.

As musicians, part of our work is to make the impossible possible. We manipulate sound waves in ways that perhaps others have not done before, or not attempted before. We live to prove critics and naysayers wrong. All those people who said that we wouldn't make it as musicians, we're engaging in this craft to prove them wrong. And perhaps, we might engage in experiments that result in pioneering works of art. Who knows what each musician can bring? People can hear talent and/or improvement and immediately sense it.

So if you are thinking of taking part in a contest, rule of thumb: do not be intimidated. If I had it in me to make the impossible possible with my run in the 2012 NGADM, why can't anyone else? You each stand as much of a chance as I did, even if scores and crowds of clamoring fans would like to think otherwise.

As I speak, two of my NGADM 2012 pieces are being remade -- Propter Te and Mio/Homura. The first is about 60% done, the other is about 40% done. A handful of people have asked for me to remake the other two submissions, Supplication and Asperges Me. I'll get to them in due course, I'm not sure when.

I'm still figuring out how to handle drums properly for Propter Te. There are times where I'm so disheartened and think that I'm one of the worst drummers there ever was. Now that probably isn't true, but it's what I've been made to think for many years. While I know that the drums for Propter Te can be reproduced by human hands, I'm struggling with it. Come Monday, I'd like to attempt to get it done......

Months ago I'd sent my apologies, that I wouldn't be able to make it all the way to Philly for Pico Day. Instead, I have a little gift. It's right here.

The person singing in the background of Tales of Zale - Minisode 3 is yours truly.

I've been really excited for its release. Thanks @Hikarian and @deadlyfishes for taking me on board.

I am writing this post as a compendium of every NG musician who has particular talents in a kind of instrument, or anything in particular. I do this with the intention of us helping each other out, and so that newer users who want to collaborate with us seasoned ones can do so by finding users through this post.

As a general rule, for those of you who intend to PM these users directly, it would be courteous to tell people if it is a paid job or something that you are doing without any payment. It would also be great to credit, compensate (if paid) and offer the possibility of future collaboration. I hope this will serve as a way of reaching out to some really good talents out there who need that little bit of help to make their ideas come to life.

If you are a vocalist, have an instrument you can play and record, or have some other particular skill that would prove handy, feel free to comment on this post and I will gladly add you to the list.

It's happened again!

3805804_145908487923_MEEPFALLS.png

Nightfall, my most recent NG upload, was played by BBC Radio Lancashire yesterday night when Seán and I were at the Easter Vigil Mass.

You can either access the fragment of the radio recording including Sean McGinty's announcement here on Instaudio, or on the original programme here.

This was really, REALLY amazing news for me to get this morning. Seán (my Seán) got the e-mail and told me about it after this morning's Easter Mass. I was in the choir loft at the time I heard this news, and I was so excited and hugged everyone in close proximity to me.

In other news: what did I do in between Lent and now?

Seán and I spent a week in Derby with @Merlyne, and had a good week.

Later on, in the midst of my NG fast, Seán found my old hard drive, one of three which had failed in 2014. Remember I said once before that all my files were lost....?

Guess what -- they've come back, the whole lot of them, in droves. Seán managed to get that hard drive back to life again. I got old FLPs, old pictures of me and my grandmother (which I thought I'd never see again), old files of a constructed language that I was working on, old Project Chaplaincy drawings and music, old piano recordings... Quite frankly, there's been a lot of things in that drive, and I'm glad it's back.

I'd been riding my bike more -- trying to build up more endurance.

I was assigned to timpani and harp during the Easter Masses.

And that brings us up to date, I believe!

Before I end this post, I ask for thoughts and prayers for Seán and his mother. Seán's mother's cancer has returned, and the prognosis is not good. Seán's condition continues to deteriorate. It'd be much appreciated if you could spare a thought and/or a prayer for them. Thank you.

It's good to be back to full capacity on Newgrounds. It's good to receive a whole lot of chocolate today. It's good to celebrate the Mass of the Risen Lord.

Happy Easter, everyone.

To celebrate the end of my NG fast, I've released the full version of Nightfall (as a copyrighted, non-downloadable track). It's been a while since I last posted anything, and I think it's time people heard this track in full.

In previous years I'd given up Newgrounds, except for last year, when the 20th Anniversary Collaboration was still under way. So what about now, you ask, since I've been made mod?

Uh, good question. I think, I'm going to have to strike a bit of a balance.

Starting Wednesday, I'll still be on NG, but only responding in my capacity as a mod.

That means throughout Lent there will be no personal posts, no personal forum replies, no submissions and no PM replies coming from me. I will tend to the Audio Cleanup Thread and call @BrokenDeck when a thread needs locking, but that's about it.

I'll still be on Skype, so if anyone wants to ask me any questions or message me privately, you may do so there.
